Is this the official site for London's museums?
No. London Museums is an independent guide. It is not affiliated with any museum, with Visit London, or with any UK public body, and it runs no museums. It is a directory of 48 museums and museum-like attractions, written by one London travel writer.
How does the site make money?
Through affiliate links. Of the 48 museums listed, 25 sell tickets through a booking platform, and the site earns a commission when a reader books through one of those links. The reader pays no extra. The other 23 listings, including all 20 free museums, earn the site nothing.
Are the prices on this site current?
Prices are checked against each museum's own ticket page. Museums change their pricing without notice, so if a price here differs from what you see at checkout, the checkout price is the one that counts. Where a figure could not be verified, the site says so rather than printing a number that might be wrong.
Are London museums really free?
Many are. Of the 48 places listed, 20 are free to enter, including most of the big national museums. The other 28 charge admission. Each listing states which is which, and free museums carry no buy button at all.
Do you sell tickets?
No. The site sells nothing itself. Some listings link to a booking platform, from which the site earns a commission, and paid museums without a reseller are linked to their own official ticket page. Two museums, Keats House and John Wesley's House, sell no ticket online anywhere and are marked door-only.
Who writes this site?
James Whitfield, a London travel writer. His expertise is research: he reads the live listings, checks prices against each museum's own ticket page, tracks which collections are free and which have started charging, and reports opening hours as the museums state them. He does not claim to have personally visited every museum, and the site never puts an invented first-hand anecdote in his voice.
How do you choose which museums to include?
The directory covers 48 museums and museum-like attractions across London, from the national institutions to small house museums. The test is whether a place is a genuine visitable collection: a museum, a gallery with a permanent collection, or a historic house that functions as one. If it fits, it gets listed with the same care whether it is free, paid, or door-only.
How do I report an error?
Email info@londonmuseums.net with the correction, particularly a wrong price or a stale opening time. Corrections are checked against the museum's own listings and then fixed. A spotted error is the most useful email this site can receive.
